Co-Occurring Disorder and Integrated Care
A Co-occurring Disorder occurs when individuals experience both mental health and substance use disorders at the same time. Greater Valley Health Center offers intervention for both disorders concurrently with a team that includes licensed addiction counselors, licensed clinical professional counselors and integrated care managers. At GVHC we offer low barrier to entry into treatment that is tailored to our client’s individual needs. Our client-centered approach is customized versus using a predetermined set of techniques which helps our clients reach their treatment goals. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, “The presence of two or more disorders can complicate diagnosis and treatment. Integrating both screening and treatment for mental and substance use disorders leads to a better quality of care and health outcomes for those living with co-occurring disorders by treating the whole person.”
Greater Valley offers an integrated model of care that is unique in area. This is made possible though collaboration and coordination between our departments and externally with other medical specialists and community resources whereby we assist patients and their families in finding community resources to ensure their needs are met. This includes behavioral health specialists that are located in the medical clinic and available to provide prompt assistance to those who may be currently experiencing issues or would like to receive information on how to obtain behavioral health services in the future.
